CEMA C Rubber Disc Flat Idlers – Medium-Duty Self-Cleaning Flat Rollers, 4" & 5" Diameter

ZOOMRY CEMA C rubber disc flat idlers combine uniform flat belt support with alternating rubber discs for self-cleaning operation on the carrying or return side. Engineered to CEMA C standards for mining and industrial conveyors up to 42-inch belt width, these rubber disc idlers provide the belt support of a flat roller with the self-cleaning benefits of rubber discs — ideal for sticky material applications where belt flutter or vibration needs to be controlled. Available with 4-inch and 5-inch diameter rollers and labyrinth seals.

1. Product Overview

ZOOMRY CEMA C rubber disc flat idlers combine uniform full-width belt support with alternating rubber discs for self-cleaning operation. Engineered to CEMA C standards for mining and industrial conveyors up to 42-inch belt width, these rubber disc idlers provide the stable belt support of a flat roller with the self-cleaning benefits of rubber discs. Unlike standard flat return rollers where sticky material accumulates into uneven deposits, the disc design sheds carryback during rotation — helping to control belt flutter on high-speed return conveyors. Available with 4-inch and 5-inch diameter rollers and labyrinth seals.

Rubber disc flat idlers are used on both the carrying and return side where sticky materials cause buildup on continuous roller surfaces. The alternating disc pattern is particularly effective in coal and clay applications where standard flat rollers require frequent manual cleaning to prevent mistracking.

2. How Rubber Disc Flat Idlers Control Buildup and Flutter

On high-speed conveyors handling sticky materials, the return belt is particularly vulnerable to two problems: material buildup on roller surfaces and belt flutter caused by irregular roller contact. Standard flat steel rollers provide uniform contact — but any accumulation of sticky carryback creates high spots that the belt slaps against at each revolution, generating vibration and accelerating bearing wear.

The CEMA C rubber disc flat idler addresses both issues. The alternating rubber discs provide multiple contact points along the roller length — enough to maintain stable belt support — while the gaps between discs allow accumulated material to fall away as the roller turns. The rubber material itself provides slight damping, helping to control belt vibration compared with steel-on-belt contact. The result is a cleaner roller surface, more consistent belt tracking, and extended bearing life in applications where standard flat rollers require frequent maintenance attention.

3. Key Features

Uniform Flat Support with Self-Cleaning — Alternating rubber discs provide stable belt contact across the full roller width while gaps between discs allow carryback to fall away during rotation — ideal for cement and coal conveyor return sections.

Belt Flutter Control — Rubber-to-belt contact provides natural vibration damping compared with steel-on-belt surfaces, helping to control belt flutter on high-speed return conveyors.

CEMA C Medium-Duty Rating — 4-inch and 5-inch diameter rollers engineered for belt widths up to 42 inches — suitable for medium-duty applications in aggregate and mining conveyors.

Passive Self-Cleaning — No water spray, no scrapers, no manual intervention — the rubber discs flex slightly during rotation, naturally shedding accumulated material without external power or consumables.

Advanced Labyrinth Sealing — Multi-stage seals protect bearings from dust and moisture ingress common in bulk material handling environments.

4. Rubber Disc Flat vs Standard Flat vs Rubber Disc Return

Feature CEMA C Rubber Disc Flat (C6) CEMA C Standard Flat (C9) CEMA C Rubber Disc Return (C5)
Roller Surface Alternating rubber discs Smooth steel shell Alternating rubber discs
Self-Cleaning Yes — passive disc shedding No — manual cleaning required Yes — passive disc shedding
Primary Use Flat belt support + self-cleaning Standard flat belt support Return side self-cleaning
Belt Flutter Control Good — rubber damping effect Baseline — rigid contact Moderate — primarily return side
Best For High-speed flat belts, sticky materials, flutter-prone sections Dry, clean belt applications Sticky return side — coal, clay, overburden

5. Dimensions – CEMA C Rubber Disc Flat Idlers

ZOOMRY CEMA C rubber disc flat idlers are manufactured with 4-inch and 5-inch diameter configurations for belt widths from 18 to 42 inches. Suitable for medium-duty CEMA C flat belt sections in mining, coal, cement, and aggregate conveyors:

BW A B L 4" H 5" H
18 27 29 21 3/8 5 1/4 6 1/4
20 29 31 23 3/8 5 1/4 6 1/4
24 33 35 27 3/8 5 1/4 6 1/4
30 39 41 33 3/8 5 1/4 6 1/4
36 45 47 39 3/8 5 1/4 6 1/4
42 51 53 45 3/8 5 1/4 6 1/4

Dimensions per CEMA C industry standards. BW=Belt width, A=Frame width, B=Overall width, L=Roller length (including rubber discs), H=Center height above mounting base. Rubber disc diameter is approximately 1–2 inches larger than the steel shell diameter. All dimensions in inches.

What Information Do We Need for Flat Idler Selection?

  • Belt width, conveyor speed, and flat section length
  • Material type, moisture content, and stickiness characteristics
  • Current roller condition — buildup severity, cleaning frequency, and belt flutter observations
  • Operating environment — dust levels, temperature range, and exposure to moisture
  • Existing idler type, frame dimensions, and whether this is a retrofit or new installation
