Project Background

Hebei Yuantong Mining is a large-scale iron ore mining and processing enterprise. As production expanded, the existing truck transport between the mine pit and the processing plant became a bottleneck: the 3.3 km mountainous route caused high fuel costs, dust pollution, and frequent traffic delays. The mine needed a continuous, high-capacity, and environmentally friendly conveying solution to replace truck haulage and meet stricter emission standards.

Project Requirements

The client requested a single long-distance belt conveyor system with the following specifications:

  • Conveying length: 3,300 meters (without intermediate transfer stations)
  • Belt width: 1,400 mm (to handle iron ore lump size up to 300 mm)
  • Capacity: ≥ 2,000 t/h (continuous)
  • Terrain: Multiple gentle slopes and one horizontal curve (radius ≈ 800 m)
  • Environmental standard: Dust emission ≤ 10 mg/m³
  • Reliability: 24/7 operation with minimal maintenance

ZOOMRY's Customized Solution

Core Equipment – Long-Distance Belt Conveyor

ZOOMRY designed and supplied a single-flight long-distance belt conveyor (3,300 m) with the following features:

  • Belt width: 1,400 mm, with ST1600 steel cord belt (tensile strength ≥ 1,600 N/mm) to handle heavy loads
  • Belt speed: 2.5 m/s (optimized for iron ore to reduce dust and belt wear)
  • Drive system: 2 × 315 kW variable-frequency motors (totaling 630 kW) with soft start, ensuring smooth operation on the uphill section
  • Curve adaptation: Special friction self-aligning idlers installed at the horizontal curve to prevent belt deviation
  • Idlers: Heavy-duty type (diameter 159 mm, rotational resistance ≤ 2.5 N) with labyrinth seals for dusty environment
  • Belt Cleaners: Dual tungsten-tipped scrapers at head and tail (cleaning efficiency ≥ 96%)
  • Full enclosure: Steel covers along the entire conveyor to suppress dust and protect against weather

Dust Control System

The sealed covers and dust extraction points at transfer areas reduced dust emissions from an estimated 25 mg/m³ (previous truck transport) to below 8 mg/m³, fully complying with local environmental regulations.

Implementation Process

Design & Manufacturing

ZOOMRY’s engineering team conducted a topographic survey of the 3.3 km route. The conveyor was designed with a segmented steel frame to match the mountain terrain. All components were manufactured at ZOOMRY’s ISO 9001-certified factory and pre-assembled in sections to reduce on-site work.

Installation & Commissioning

A 12-person installation team completed the assembly in 60 days using a “sectional lifting” method. The belt splicing was done by vulcanization. After a 72‑hour load test, the conveyor achieved a stable capacity of 2,150 t/h, exceeding the requirement.

Training & After-Sales

ZOOMRY provided 10 days of on‑site training for the mine’s maintenance crew, covering daily inspection, belt tracking, and emergency procedures. A spare parts kit (idlers, scrapers, sensors) was stocked locally for rapid replacement (≤ 7 days).
