How Does a Snub Pulley Optimize Your Conveyor System?
In a belt conveyor system, the drive pulley relies on friction between the pulley surface and the belt to transmit power. When the wrap angle — the arc of belt contact around the drive pulley — is insufficient, the belt can slip under heavy load, causing premature wear and energy loss. The snub pulley solves this by pressing against the return side of the belt near the drive pulley, forcing the belt around more of the drive pulley's circumference.
This increased wrap angle provides greater traction without increasing belt tension, which means the entire system can operate with a lighter, more cost-effective belt.
